How does your garden grow?

Memorial Day weekend was wonderful and I got bunches done. Back is feeling better and I spent the weekend sewing myself a wall-hanging. I'll show you when it's done. I don't often take time to make something for myself but, it's always a 'sweet' time for me, when I do.

Summer is officially here! Bill's garden is producing and we enjoyed a dinner of a fresh lettuce and tomato salad, steamed zucchini and summer squash, all from his garden and grilled chicken (we grill the year round so that's no biggie). But, we are so happy to have fresh produce.

Red Sails lettuce.
Hope your gardens do well this year! Don't forget to eat your veggies!
Have a great day and a safe and fun summer!

Quilter's Dream Batting

I use Quilter's Dream Batting and love it! I got this e-mail today and thought it worth sharing.

QUILTERS DREAM BATTINGMay 29, 2010
This Memorial Day and Every Day Quilters Dream Batting would like to Honor Our Military Men and Women and Veterans of all Branches
Dear Friends,

As it is Memorial Day weekend, we would like to take this time to reflect on the sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Military.

The United States military is, and will always be, made up of the finest men and women of this country, and we take this opportunity to honor those who serve or have served. We remember those who have died in service to ensure our freedom and the sacrifice of their loved ones.  We honor those who courageously defend our country and show our appreciation with thoughts and prayers.  We give special thanks to those family members who give up so much for our freedom.

This weekend as well as each and every day may God bless America and American troops.

Sincerely,
Kathy Thompson and the "Dream Team" at

"Freedom is Not Free"
by Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
